There are some players such as ISO, GENCO, TRANSCO, DISCO, RETAILCO, and Customers in the power industry.

ISO (Independent System Operator)

GENCO (Generator Company)

Generator companies are responsible for generating electricity. They own and operate power plants that convert various energy sources, such as coal, natural gas, nuclear, solar, and wind, into electricity. GENCOs sell the electricity they generate to transmission companies.

 

TRANSCO (Transmission Company)

Transmission companies are responsible for transporting electricity over long distances through high-voltage transmission lines. They own and operate the transmission network, which is a vast network of power lines that connects generators to distributors. TRANSCOs receive electricity from GENCOs and deliver it to DISCOs.

 

DISCO (Distribution Company)

Distribution companies are responsible for delivering electricity to end-users, such as homes, businesses, and industries. They own and operate the distribution network, which is a network of power lines that connects TRANSCOs to customers. DISCOs receive electricity from TRANSCOs and distribute it to customers through lower-voltage lines.

 

RETAILCO (Retail Electricity Company)

Retail electricity companies sell electricity to end-users. They purchase electricity from DISCOs and then sell it to customers at a retail price. RETAILCOs compete with other RETAILCOs to provide customers with the best price and service.

 

Customers

Customers are the end-users of electricity. They include homes, businesses, industries, and government agencies. Customers purchase electricity from RETAILCOs, and they use it for various purposes, such as lighting, heating, cooling, and powering appliances.
