Hi everyone, this is Min and i am writing this posting related to Transmission-Line Differential equations for power engineers.

Transmission-line differential equations are a set of two coupled partial differential equations that describe the behavior of voltage and current on a transmission line. They are also known as the Telegrapher's equations.

The equations are derived from Maxwell's equations, which are the fundamental equations of electromagnetism. The Telegrapher's equations take into account the distributed nature of a transmission line, which means that the voltage and current at any point on the line depend on the voltage and current at all other points on the line.

The Telegrapher's equations are as follows:

∂V/∂z = -L∂I/∂t
∂I/∂z = -C∂V/∂t

where:

  • V is the voltage on the transmission line
  • I is the current on the transmission line
  • z is the distance along the transmission line
  • t is time
  • L is the inductance per unit length of the transmission line
  • C is the capacitance per unit length of the transmission line

The Telegrapher's equations can be used to solve for the voltage and current at any point on a transmission line, given the boundary conditions at the ends of the line.

The Telegrapher's equations are important for the design and analysis of transmission lines used in a variety of applications, including power transmission, telecommunications, and radio frequency engineering.

Here are some examples of how the Telegrapher's equations can be used:

  • To design a transmission line that can carry a certain amount of power with a minimum amount of loss.
  • To analyze the behavior of a transmission line when it is terminated with a load of a certain impedance.
  • To design a filter that can be used to pass or block signals of a certain frequency range.
  • To analyze the propagation of electromagnetic waves in a transmission line.

The Telegrapher's equations are a powerful tool for understanding and designing transmission lines.

Additionally, i also would like to introduce for the general case of a line with losses as below:
